Some Scriptures About Proclaiming The Gospel

Prov. 28:1   The wicked man flees though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

Matt. 9:37-38 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Mark 1:17 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”

Mark 8:38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

Mark 12:31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

Mark 16:15   He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.

Luke 4:43 But [Jesus] said, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.”

Luke 13:5b [Jesus said,] But unless you repent, you too will all perish.

Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.”

John 4:35 Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.

John 6:44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.

Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 5:42 Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.

Acts 13:47 For this is what the Lord has commanded us: “‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’”

Acts 20:20-21 You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house.  I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.

Acts 20:24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me — the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.

Rom. 1:14-15   I am obligated both to Greeks and Non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish.  That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are at Rome.

Rom. 1:16-17   I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.  For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

Rom. 1:18-20   The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness,  since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.   For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

Rom. 1:28-32   Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.  They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips,  slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;  they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.  Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

Rom. 10:14-15   How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?  And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Rom. 10:17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

1Cor. 1:18   For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

1Cor. 9:16 Yet when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, for I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

2Cor. 5: 9-10 So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

2Cor. 5:11   Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men...

2Cor. 5:16-21   So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!  All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:  that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.  We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.  God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Col. 1:29 To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.

Col. 3:2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Col. 4:2-6   Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.  And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.  Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.  Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.  Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Eph. 6:19-20   Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,  for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

1Th. 2:4 On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts.

1Tim. 1:15   Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners — of whom I am the worst.

1Tim. 4:16  Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

2Tim. 1:8   So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God,

Philem. 6 I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.

Heb 9:27-28 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Heb 11:25-26 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.

1 Pe 3:15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

James 5:19 -20  My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins.

Jude 22-23  Be merciful to those who doubt;  snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear — hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.

Rev. 20:14-15 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.  If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Blog Post #8- How's It Going? - Some Witnessing Clips April 29, 2022

Well, Hello! How’s it going? Are you finding this blog helpful? Are you learning anything new or inspiring? Are you feeling encouraged? Maybe a bit overwhelmed? I certainly understand! We are here to help. We’ve covered some good ground so far. We’ve introduced a bunch of topics that can help us with Jesus’s command to preach the gospel. We’ve looked at a number of scripture verses to convince us it’s our mission. We’ve listened to some messages about why we need to preach not only the good news of the gospel but also the bad news that precedes it. We’ve heard some analogies (the doctor with the cure, putting the parachute on). We’ve cleared up some misconceptions as to why so many “believers” fall away. We’ve learned to articulate what we believe in under two minutes in order to serve others. And we’ve reasoned through why we should always have tracts available and how to choose and buy good ones. Whew. That’s a lot right?

This week we’re gonna take a break from the weekly challenge. Use the time to go back and catch up on any you haven’t done yet. You’ll be so happy you did! So again, instead of issuing a new challenge, I’m just gonna ask you to watch 2 of my favorite witnessing clips by Kirk Cameron. We’re gonna start learning how to initiate and steer a conversation towards the gospel. But for this week, just soak it in!

Oh, wouldn’t you love to be a wake-up call for someone else? Oh, Father, I pray you have saved this priceless young man!

Isn’t that interesting? At least one of those gang members repented and trusted Christ for salvation! If you’d like to watch that three minute story, CLICK HERE.

Challenge- go back and complete any weekly challenge you haven’t already done. Thank God for giving you the time and ability to complete any challenges you’ve already finished.

If this blog or the accompanying RESOURCE PAGE has been useful to you, please leave a comment below! I’d love to hear from you!

Grace and peace,

Mary

Blog Post #7- More On Tracts! - April 22, 2022

Welcome! So glad you’ve chosen to spend a few minutes with me thinking about how to serve people who don’t yet know CHRIST. I am thankful for you!!!

Last week I showed you three of my favorite gospel tracts. What did you think of them? This week I’m going to show you several more and ask you again to give some away.

I love this cartoon tract. You can order paper copies HERE and you can also email the free animated version to others or post it to your social media accounts. The printed version comes in Spanish as well as English and is great to give to both adults and teens. The animated version is available in different languages as well.

I also really love a tract called 101 of The World’s Funniest One-Liners. It is HILARIOUS! Once I gave it to a store clerk and when I returned to the same store the next day she was reading the jokes to her manager. The manager asked, “Where did you get those?” and she replied, “some lady gave it to me yesterday.” I certainly took credit for the entertainment! And, I can’t remember for sure, but I most likely gave one to the manager as well! Find it HERE- take a few moments to read through the text. I guarantee you will laugh! I often will give these to people like security guards or receptionists or restaurant hostesses. I do often tell the recipient that there’s a message about what God has done for us that contains bad news first and then good news. Typically a person will say, “Oh, ok, thank you!”

I just bought a few packs of this tract, called Your Life, and I’m gonna see how it goes! CLICK HERE

Here’s a very short video that will give you a bit more information about tracts. It is followed by another very short video of what giving tracts out on a street corner can look like. I find this to be very accurate! Although usually the team of people I go out witnessing with are typically trying to initiate conversations in addition to just passing out tracts. Please ask God to give you the motivation and the courage to give a few away this week, and let me and our blog buddies know how it goes in the comments below!

Grace and Peace!

Blog Post #6 Choosing Good Tracts - April 15, 2022

So…??? How did it go? Did you give a tract away last week? If you didn’t, no worries, you’ll have the same challenge this week. The first few tracts I gave away were to the cashier at a fast food drive-through and the attendant at a toll-booth (you’ll have to go through the cash lane!). Of course it was a bit scary, but I find that fear can actually help us - it makes us desperate for God’s help and drives us to pray!

So, I’m going to discuss some things to consider when choosing good gospel tracts as well as what to avoid. I’ll also show you my top three favorites and give you tips on how to distribute them along with where to purchase them.

There are many FANTASTIC gospel tracts! Sadly, though, there are also many TERRIBLE gospel tracts!

What makes a gospel tract excellent? The most important elements that must be covered in a tract are THE LAW so that the reader understands his sin and therefore his dreadful predicament and THE GOSPEL, because giving him the gospel, or good news, is of course the whole point! Many tracts will talk about Jesus loving them and will talk about how to have Him in your life and go to heaven, but they often say very little about what sin is and how God views it. This oversight will not convince a person that THEY PERSONALLY need Christ! Remember the points we learned in Hell’s Best Kept Secret and True and False Conversion?

Obviously, you also want a tract that is clear, attractive, includes scripture, and tells a person what they must do to be saved! Some tracts even give websites or QR codes which will direct the reader to some helpful follow-up information. Many even leave space for you to write your name and phone number (or that of your church) so that people may be able to contact you later. (Tip: if they don’t contain space for this, I often write my name and number on it anyway!) You also want to give tracts that you yourself would be happy to receive. Avoid ones that are unappealing, speak harshly, or shy away from using the Law (Commandments) to show a person their need for salvation. Remember that “the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.” (Gal 3:24 KJV) (To see a wonderful explanation of this concept CLICK HERE.) And remember, mentioning hell on a tract in a loving way is helpful. Jesus Himself warned His listeners more about Hell than He spoke about Heaven! Why? Because it was loving to tell them the truth!

The tract I’ve used most often is the million dollar bill. I usually say with a big welcoming smile, “Hi, did your get one of these yet?” I extend my hand and the person typically will reach out to take it. Then I say, “It’s a million dollar gospel tract. It tells us what God has done for us and why we need it.” Sometimes a person will read it right then and there and I can ask if they’ve ever heard that message before. Then we can talk about it as much as the person wants. Here is a link to purchase the tract. You can read the full text on the website as well. CLICK HERE (I see they’re currently out of stock at this seller, here’s a similar tract.)

I also love the 4 Things You Need To Know About GOD tract as well. Again here is a link for you to read the tract and to purchase if you’d like. CLICK HERE I often give it to people along with our church’s business card. Often after an interaction with a person about something (a visit with a doctor, chatting with someone in line at a store or at a park, purchasing my groceries, etc.) I’ll say, “Here’s an invitation to my church and a message about what God’s done for us.” Most people take it and thank me. I try to make sure to have my contact info on the back as I mentioned earlier.

Jeff would like to share about one of his favorite tracts with you as well in the video below.

Here’s where you can get a hold of these curved illusions. CLICK HERE

Your challenge again this week is to try to give away some gospel tracts! Please let us know how it goes! And as always, leave a comment and tell a friend about our blog and resource page!

Grace and peace,

Mary

Blog Post #5- Why Use Gospel Tracts? - April 8, 2022

Welcome! Thanks for joining me at the Evangelism Toolkit blog! Find information, encouragement, and tips about preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ here. We offer this weekly blog along with a challenge to complete that will help you grow in your evangelism efforts.

Let’s talk about tracts. I know some Christians (like me!) love them. Others are not so sure. I would like to try and persuade you to add these amazing and life-saving tools to your toolbox!

Reasons tracts can be helpful

*they clearly present the gospel message and God uses them to save people!!!

*they can act as an icebreaker and help initiate a gospel conversation

*they can fully present the message of salvation when you don’t have time

*they can be used to reinforce a gospel conversation you’ve just had or had in the past

*they’re never afraid

*they never compromise their message

*they never get tired, discouraged, or give up

*they can be sent places you can’t go

*they only speak when they are read - in the reader’s timeframe

Romans 1:16 says “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” The power to save is in the MESSAGE itself. Not in the MESSENGER! The reality is that some people won’t use them because they’re embarrassed . They’ve convinced themselves that tracts aren’t cool. But what could be cooler than laying aside your own fears and preferences to show sacrificial love to someone else? If God uses tracts to save people, why wouldn’t I use them?

Please take a few minutes to watch this man’s testimony of being saved by God through a gospel tract.

This week’s challenge. Pray. Ask God to show you situations where gospel tracts would be helpful. Give one away this week. Pray for the receiver. Consider using tracts regularly. We’ll discuss this more next week and I’ll show you some of my family’s favorites, how to use them, and where to order them! If you don’t currently have any, see if you can get some at church on Sunday. (Freedom Church Baltimore, you can grab some in the lobby!) You might even choose to send some Easter/Resurrection Day cards to your unbelieving friends or family or neighbors. Put a great tract in it, or use your skills of presenting the “ninety second gospel” (see last week’s post) in written form to let them know how important the Day actually is!

Grace and peace,

Mary

Blog Post #4 - Ninety Second Gospel - April 1, 2022

Hi! Welcome back! How did last week’s challenge go? Did you learn new information from the True and False Conversion message? Isn’t it heartbreaking to think that so many people believe that just because they prayed a prayer one time that they will go to heaven when they die even though they didn’t actually turn from their sin and they don’t actively love or obey Jesus? Can you imagine their horror when the Lord casts them away? This makes my heart swell with Jesus’s compassion and a sense of urgency. Let’s reach out to those around us with boldness and love.

I have found it extremely useful to know how to present the gospel in 90 seconds because sometimes that is all the time you have with someone. Could you do that? What if the person you were having a conversation with had to leave in a minute because their bus was approaching? Or more dramatically, what if someone had been struck by a car and was dying along the side of the road? Could you be of any eternal value to them? I know that until I really practiced this skill I had no idea how to concisely communicate what I believed with someone else. There have been numerous occasions where I’ve listened attentively to what someone else believes and then I’ve asked them if I might share what I believe. This has been very effective.

Watch below to see a few people give the gospel in 60-90 seconds. Notice how they each use different words but communicate the same information. And just so you know, I have practiced many times doing this and even so it still took me quite a few takes to communicate effectively for the video today. But regular PRACTICE will make PERMANENT!

Practice preaching the gospel to yourself in 60-90 seconds each day this week! That is the challenge! What are the important facts to communicate? God’s holiness, our sin, God’s perfect provision of a Savior, His death on a cross, His resurrection, and His promise of forgiveness and eternal life… Can you think of anything I’m missing? Feel the freedom to copy and memorize the way someone else has said it, or say it in your own words!! Send me a video of your gospel message if you can- I’d love to hear it! And as always, please like, share, and leave a comment to let me know you were here!

Grace and peace,

Mary

Blog Post #3 - True and False Conversion, March 25, 2022

Well, hello! So glad you’re back. That makes me really happy. How did you enjoy last week’s challenge? What was something new you learned listening to Hell’s Best Kept Secret? I loved the putting on the parachute analogy and the doctor explaining the disease before the cure. I found great wisdom in how Jesus interacted with the Rich Young Ruler and the fact that “The Law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul.” I almost laughed out loud when Ray Comfort said, “before I was a Christian, I had as much desire for righteousness as a four-year-old boy has for [a] ‘bath’.” I have learned so much from this dear brother over the years. I hope you do too!

Jeff and I are going to continue our video story from last week. If you missed it you might want to go back and take a listen and then head on back here!

This week’s challenge is to listen to Ray Comfort’s second (and final, for now) foundational message, called True and False Conversion. CLICK HERE This sermon has been so helpful to me in my walk with the Lord. It’s uncovered quite a few mysteries for me as well. And it’s helped me to serve people who may think themselves to be Christians but may not yet be. What a joy to serve these dear ones. Be aware, if you listen with children in the room, there is one very violent and upsetting story. And like last week’s challenge, this one is just over an hour so you may want to plan accordingly. Also like last week, you can scroll down to read the transcript.

If you like what I’ve shared, please like and share as well! Hope to see you next week.

Grace and peace.

Blog Post #2- Our Story / Hell's Best Kept Secret - March 18, 2022

Hello! Thanks for joining me today for another episode of the Evangelism Toolkit. I pray that last week’s challenge to read scripture verses on witnessing was a blessing and a wake-up call simultaneously. Boy, do I need the Word to correct my course and spur me on. And I sure do need community to help encourage me to love and good works. I am hoping that this blog will serve you in that way as well.

I’d love to share my story with you. My husband is going to join me and we’ll share our story again here for those of you who did not hear it at our church service last week and for any who’d like to hear it again.

For this week’s challenge, please take a listen to one of my favorite training tools: Hell’s Best Kept Secret. You can find it on The Evangelism Toolkit Resource Page or CLICK HERE. This is a sermon recorded by a brother in Christ that I dearly love and can’t wait to meet one day, Ray Comfort. Please note that if you scroll down on the link a bit you can also read the transcript if you so choose! Grab a cup of something to drink and settle in a comfy chair, or put in some ear buds and go for a walk - this message is 53 minutes. Divide it into two sittings if necessary. But PLEASE don’t miss it! I guarantee if you put this message into practice it will be an investment in other people’s salvation!

I will be praying for each of us this week that we would all desire to be more faithful in our responsibility to make the gospel known! Will you join me in that prayer?

Grace and peace!

Blog Post #1 - Evangelism Toolkit Introduction - March 4, 2022

EVANGELISM TOOLKIT INTRODUCTION

By Charaya Morris and Mary Bruns

Hi, Friends! We’d like to introduce this new blog called EVANGELISM TOOLKIT where we take some time each week to introduce and talk about different topics concerning evangelism. Why, you may ask? As fellow believers, we are called to preach and teach the gospel, not just to those overseas, but to our families, friends and neighbors. But sometimes, it can be an overwhelming task. How do I start a conversation with someone about Christ? Am I even qualified to tell someone about Jesus when I still struggle with sins in my life? What if someone asks me a question that I don’t know how to answer?

Our prayer is that God would use our weekly blogs to give you the confidence and information (“tools”, so to speak) you need to boldly proclaim Christ in any scenario you find yourself in. We also plan to provide resources for you to use to further your knowledge on evangelism.

Each week we will present a challenge for you to complete. It may include reading particular sets of scriptures or other written materials, watching particular videos, or even taking some small practical steps to increase your witnessing experiences and service to others!

Here is this week’s challenge:

Go to the Evangelism Toolkit Resource Page on the menu and scroll down to the first section titled Some Helpful Scriptures For Proclaiming The Gospel or CLICK HERE. Prayerfully read through the different verses. Hopefully they will help fuel and encourage your heart and desire to witness to others about our amazing Savior! Leave us a comment to let us know which scriptures spoke to you the most!

We pray you enjoyed this Evangelism Toolkit episode. See you next week!

Grace and Peace!
